NeoSport Neoprene Five Finger Glove, 3mm

Five-finger 3 mm neoprene gloves with a wrist strap, for hands that feel the cold first.

Best for first cold plungespeople who would rather keep their hands in the watergripping a handrail on the way out

After the feet, it is the hands. Plenty of people get through a first dip with their hands held out of the water; gloves are the other answer. NeoSport’s five-finger glove is a diving glove in 3 mm neoprene with a textured palm, glued and sewn seams and a hook-and-loop strap that closes the cuff around the wrist.

For a cold tub, the 3 mm version is the sensible one: thick enough to take the edge off, thin enough to grip a rail or press a timer button. A 5 mm version exists on the same listing for people who find they want more. Like any wetsuit glove, it lets a little water in and slows the cold; it does not keep hands dry.

Tip: Put the gloves on with dry hands before you get in, and close the wrist straps snugly – they are far harder to pull on wet.
