Confer Plastics Handi-Step Spa and Hot Tub Step

Two textured treads that turn a climb over the tub wall into two calm steps.

Best for getting in and out of a hot tub in dim lightround or square spa cabinets

Getting in and out is the one risky moment of a soak: wet feet, a cold deck, low light. A proper step fixes most of it. The Handi-Step is a two-tread resin step, 14 in (36 cm) high, with a textured surface on both treads. The treads are reversible, so the same step sits flush against a square cabinet or follows the curve of a round tub.

It is rated to 300 lb (136 kg) and has no handrail, so anyone who wants something to hold should plan a separate rail. The pieces snap together; the maker recommends a rubber mallet to seat them firmly.

Tip: Set it on level ground, tight against the cabinet, and keep one small light on it all evening – the way out matters more than the way in.
